Seakgosing applauds Bokspits residents

10 Oct 2013

The Minister of Health, Dr John Seakgosing, has applauded Bokspits residents for consistently attending kgotla meetings in good numbers.

Dr Seakgosing expressed delight during a kgotla meeting he addressed in the Kgalagadi District village recently. He urged residents of other villages to follow the example of Bokspits residents. He said government held kgotla meetings in high regard for they afforded Batswana a platform to air their views on issues affecting them regardless of their stations in life.

He warned that people who did not attend kgotla meetings denied themselves the opportunity to learn and benefit from citizen economic empowerment programmes, which were always discussed during kgotla meetings. He also commended Bokspits residents for giving credit to the government where it was due rather than discrediting all efforts to improve the lives Batswana.

He said he was happy to hear that Bokspits residents appreciated the government’s efforts to provide an Infectious Disease Control Centre so that they did not have to travel to Tsabong for medical service. He explained that a primary hospital project for Bokspits was shelved because of financial difficulties.

The residents had asked the government to give the hospital the first priority given the distance between Bokspits and Tsabong. Dr Seakgosing advised Bokspits residents to always contact his ministry through the toll-free number: 0800 600 929 for feedback.

Ms Rachel Estherhuizen, a Bokspits resident, had urged her fellow residents to honour the government by taking advantage of the citizen economic empowerment programmes to create jobs for themselves and other Batswana.

Ms Estherhuizen decried that little was achieved in the fight against HIV/AIDS, particularly with regard to behaviour change, which could be one of the most potent ways of dealing with the scourge. Ends
