There is need for change in service delivery - official

There is need for change in the way Tutume Sub- district Council is providing services to Batswana because there is an outcry of poor service delivery in the sub-district.
Tutume Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Anthony Chebani said this at the beginning of their full council session on Monday in Tutume.
The council is the main source of services for the people, hence on daily basis people are expecting to be fully serviced as per the service standards set by the government, he said.
Mr Chebani noted that from the meetings he held in some villages in the Nata/Gweta and Shashe West constituencies, it came out that people were not happy with services provided.
The chairperson pointed out that village leaders had expressed concern over development projects being undertaken in their villages, noting that often there was no communication or consultation regarding projects commencement, completion and handingover.
He said it should be understood that government brought such projects for the development of the communities and beneficiaries should be involved.
Mr Chebani added that it was imperative for public officers to know that they were working to serve the people, hence the need to engage them on such matters.
Furthermore, the chairperson emphasised the need to give the community feedback on anything they seek clarity on rather than wait for them to make follow ups.
He also highlighted that late payment of Ipelegeng employees was still a major issue in the sub- district, adding that something needed to be done to bring an end to the complaints.
On other issues, Mr Chebani noted that bad roads were among the issues complained about, adding that he had made arrangement to have road maintenance equipment shared across the Central District to be moved to the sub-district, starting at Gweta, once Mahalapye projects are done.
He said the equipment would be in the sub-district for period of six weeks, thereafter it would be moved to another sub-district.
He said villages that would not be attended to should wait for the next round.
In addition, he stated that during his visit to Maposa Hostel, which housed Rural Area Dwellers children, he found that there was shortage of beds and mattresses, resulting in some children sleeping on the floor.
He nonetheless said through the assistance from the Central District Council secretary, they secured 39 beds and 79 mattresses for the children.
Mr Chebani further said they would continue to ensure that the hostel was fully taken care of so that it was conducive for the children to stay there. Ends
