Aim for export - VP
07 Jun 2021
Vice President Slumber Tsogwane has implored horticultural farmers to tap into the export market.
Speaking during a tour of the Silver Horizon Horticultural Farm in Ghanzi on Saturday, he said horticultural farmers should start thinking beyond producing for the country.
Mr Tsogwane pointed out that the recently-opened Kazungula Bridge provided access to regional and international markets.
The farm, which produces potatoes and onions is under Ms Dineo Swartz-Mokomo.
Ms Swartz-Mokomo said local supermarkets were supporting her business and told the Vice President that she had her own nursery for seedlings production.
Farm director Mr Jan Daniel Hendreck Michau said they recently acquired land near Kuke for expansion.
He promised that they would consider going international upon satisfying the local market.
Mr Michau expressed happiness that government was doing all to protect local farmers citing restriction on importation of vegetables to encourage local production.
He encouraged aspiring farmers to start small. Ends
