Teacher key to prosperity in new normal

North East region on Friday appreciated all it’s teachers and recognised those who got awards for their excellent work.
When giving an address during the event, North East regional education director - operations, Mr Labane Mokgosi said teachers deserved to be appreciated for them to continue doing their job effortlessly and diligently.
He said the fact that his region was the best performing out of the 10 regions in the country, gave him assurance that they were result-oriented. Mr Mokgosi said it took more than a qualification to be a teacher as passion and dedication were the core of the profession.
Further, he said for the year 2020 and 2021 they had managed to scoop 56 awards, an equivalent of 36 per cent out of the 10 regions.
He noted that they had adjusted well to the pandemic and found new ways to work for the benefit of learners.
“The use of technology works to our advantage as from time to time, together with my team, I hold virtual meetings with school heads to check on them and discuss ways to improve results and provide a conducive work environment for teachers,” he said.
Ms Kehilwe Modisenyane, who got the Meritorious Award, shared her journey in teaching, which began in 2005 in Kanye. She expressed her love for her job and said she had always been a breakthrough teacher.
The Aerodrome Primary School teacher, who is also the senior teacher for sports and culture, explained that every year her target was nothing but 100 per cent.
School head for Mmei Junior Secondary School, Ms Patrocinia Sebina expressed her gratitude as she received the Long and Distinguished Service Medal, saying it showed that her journey in teaching was fruitful and well recognised.
She said as a result-oriented person, her aim was to excel every year. She shared that since her appointment as an English teacher in 1990, she had been able to move through the ranks until she became a school head, the position she now holds.
Mr Gofamodimo Ben, recipient of the Mid-career Award, said commitment and dedication were key in his work.
He also talked of the unique relationship he had with his pupils, which he said made it easy for them to always consult on any topic.
He said the award was a motivation, but noted that teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic had been a challenge. ends
