06 Jun 2021

- Police in Gaborone’s Broadhurst location have cautioned members of the public to be on the lookout for thugs who masquerade as people on daily business, to pounce on unsuspecting victims.

Station Commander, Senior Superintendent Obusitswe Lokae said in an interview that some of the thugs followed people to and from shopping malls, with the intention to steal their cell phones, laptops and other valuables.

Supt Lokae said incidents of theft from persons and motor vehicles had soared in his area, with the perpetrators having devised sophisticated strategies to execute their sinister motives.

He said such strategies include getting into combis to grab valuable items, while others wait at bus stops to steal items through open windows of vehicles.

In some instances, he said the criminals used cars with old tractor and truck number plates to follow people to the parking areas with intentions to dispossess them of their valuables.

Supt Lokae said the hotspots were around the A1 Road, at Total Filling Station, BBS and Taung bus stop.

He noted that the thugs had also devised ways to avoid the police even at the road blocks and advised members of the public to be always be alert. ENDS
