Orange Botswana this week launched a new network, the 4G-Time Division Duplex (TDD).

Officially launching the new network, chief executive officer, Mr Patrick Benon said 4G-TDD came with a new offer range named Konnecta Max. He said they assembled the new network to meet customers’ expectations, adding that the network was dedicated to fixed Internet and based on a new technology which was more efficient for heavy data usage.

The decision to use the new technology, Mr Benon said, came after they realised that their customers consumed heavy amounts of data at home and needed unlimited Internet. He said they dedicated last year to improving mobile Internet connectivity and that in 2021 they were improving their fixed Internet connectivity.

Mr Benon said it was important to separate fixed Internet network from mobile network in order to avoid fixed Internet usage with the new technology. 

With the Konnecta Max range, Mr Benon said Orange was presenting unlimited prepaid max which would allow customers unlimited access to the Internet with no contractual commitment.

Furthermore, Mr Benon said Batswana’s need for fixed Internet increased significantly since the advent of COVID-19, and that customers needed more speed, more stability and unlimited Internet at affordable prices. He added that the pandemic accelerated Botswana’s digital transformation. He also added that the response had been great and that Batswana showed digital maturity and readiness for the next level in digital terms.

For her part, Orange Botswana product manager, Ms Doreen Ntsaga said the Konnecta Max range has three offers of unlimited prepaid max, Konnecta prepaid max and Konnecta postpaid max. She said through the new range, they strived to meet customers’ demand for reliable, fast Internet connectivity, more data volume allowance, free unlimited night and data bundles, higher fair usage policy and excellent quality of service.

The new technology covers Greater Gaborone, Greater Francistown as well as most big villages in Botswana, with expansion to other villages throughout the country underway. ends
