Kgatleng District Health Management Team (DHMT) has completed the rollout of the 4 630 doses of COVID-19 vaccine that was administered from May 10.

Completion of the second dose followed the first dose that covered Mochudi Clinic one and two, Oodi and Bokaa with 2 470 doses.

Kgatleng District community health nurse, who is also the focal person for the vaccination rollout, Mr Kenosi Mogorosi, said the second and last dose would be administered 28 days post the first shot.

He said they managed to cover the length and breadth of the district.

Although he cited some transport challenges and shortage of staff at facilities owing to the daily health tasks and routine activities that were continuing alongside vaccination, he stated that the rollout of the vaccine was a success because most people came forth for vaccination.

He said priority was given to the elderly of 75 years and above, those 65 to 75 years, health care workers and 55 to 64-year-olds.

Mr Mogorosi said so far there has not been any adverse side effects reported following vaccination, and that they only documented cases of minor side effects that arose after people got the shots which included dizziness, headache and pains on the vaccinated area.

He said Kgatleng District health was working earnestly to sensitise the public about the vaccine, and that there were some teams working with communities to mobilise and educate members of the public about the importance of taking the vaccine and continual adherence to COVID-19 protocols.

Furthermore, Mr Mogorosi said the district health teams and authorities were monitoring those that had been vaccinated in the event that adverse side effects may arise.

“We are on the ground and should there be cases of such, they will be investigated, documented and shared with the Ministry of Health and Wellness as well as the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BOMRA),” he stated. ENDS
