Speakers hail Gaealafswe for sterling public service

The late Serowe Sub Land Board chairperson, Mr Moses Gaealafswe was hailed for contributing immensely to the development of the country during and beyond his 30 years of service as a public officer.
At his burial service in Serowe on Saturday, different speakers described Mr Gaealafswe, who died on May 23 after a short illness, as a diligent person who went beyond the call of duty in discharging his responsibilities.
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s message commended him for having discharged the various responsibilities he had been charged with during his years of service with impeccable diligence.
Read by the Serowe Administration Authority deputy district commissioner, Mr Collen Tubego, Dr Masisi’s message stated how the late Mr Gaealafswe had left an indelible mark through his service to the nation.
Yet another message from land management, water and sanitation services minister, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila described the deceased as having been a valuable contributor to the daily operations of the ministry.
It further lauded him for having been a leader of note who possessed outstanding leadership attributes.
The vice chairperson of Botswana Police Council, to which Mr Gaealafswe was a member, said their deceased colleague was thorough and meticulous in his handling of cases that came before the council.
Mr Kebonye Kebonyemodisa also highlighted the friendliness as well as the ease with which Mr Gaealafswe related with all the members of the council.
Mr Gaealafswe’s obituary shows him as having served in different capacities after starting work at the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM) as personnel officer in 1985, a year after which he was moved to the District Administration Office as an assistant district officer.
The latter position, which he held till 1992, saw him serve in Selebi Phikwe, Maun, Masunga and Jwaneng.
Thereafter, he was promoted and moved to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he served as deputy director, political and economic affairs from 1993 to 1995.
From 1995 to 1999, Mr Gaealafswe served as head of chancery at the Botswana High Commission in Zimbabwe.
Upon his return to Botswana, he was appointed private secretary to former president, Dr Festus Mogae, a position he held from 1999 to 2003.
He later served as director in the Department of Civil and National Registration as well as that of Immigration and Citizenship.
At the time of retirement, he was a district commissioner and stationed in the South East and Southern districts respectively.
Outside the public service, the late Mr Gaealafswe served in the Ngwato Main Land Board as vice chairperson and later as board chairperson of the Serowe Sub Land Board.
Mr Gaealafswe leaves behind his wife, six children and six grandchildren. ends
