COVID-19 vaccination project smooth exercise - medic

Head of District Health Management Team (DHMT) for the greater Francistown says the second phase of coronavirus vaccination drive has started on the right footing.

Speaking to BOPA in an interview, Dr Ivan Kgetse explained that they have already used 99 percent of the 5 435 doses allocated for the area.

The Coordinator attributed the success to the mobilization and great support DHMT got from political leaders, dikgosi and various stakeholders.  

He explained that the doses got finished while they still remained with a backlog of those aged 65 and above.

Dr Kgetse further explained that in this phase they were supposed to have vaccinated health care workers but the vaccine got finished as priority was given to those aged above 65.

He explained that health workers would be considered during the next consignment which was expected to arrive in a short period of time.

Meanwhile, Dr Kgetse explained that since the outbreak of the pandemic, greater Francistown area registered a total of 6 597 cases 345 of which are active and 70 deaths.

He said recently the cases were declining, but with the advent of winter, flu-like ailments have started to rise. ENDS
