Over 8 000 await land allocation in Shakawe

Shakawe Sub-land Board is expected to allocate 77 plots when the board sits next month.
The sub-land board has a total of 8 108 people on its waiting list, comprising 6 849 residential plots and 1 259 ploughing fields.
Speaking during the Okavango Sub-district council meeting, the sub-district chairperson, Mr Mpoke Karapo said Shakawe had the highest number of people on the waiting list and backlog in the district.
He however noted that surveying on another layout with 2 571 plots commenced in April this year, and the plots were expected to be ready for allocation in four months.
Mr Karapo also highlighted that the Tsodilo village layout was under examination at the Department of Surveys and Mapping, with 87 plots, while layouts for Mohembo, Gani, Sepopa, Kajaja, Nxamasere, Xhaoga and Samochima had already been submitted to the council physical planning department.
“Consultations with village leadership and land overseers was conducted from 17 to 22 December 2020, to identify suitable open spaces for allocation of ploughing fields in Xhaoga, Samochima, Nxamasere, Kajaja, Sepopa and Ikoga. Base maps were submitted at the council for planning of layouts in March this year,” he said.
As for the Seronga Sub-land Board, Mr Karapo said it had 2 528 applicants on its waiting list for residential plots and 778 for ploughing fields.
He said Seronga had the highest figure on waiting list at 508 for residential and 345 for ploughing fields, followed by Beetsha at 308 for residential and 68 for ploughing fields.
As at April 2021, Mr Karapo said the Seronga Sub-land Board had adjudicated 90.3 per cent of plots, adding that there was notable improvement in the development of residential plots, while business plots were lagging behind. Regarding Nokaneng, the sub-district chairperson said following the approval of the Nokaneng layout by the North West District Council in January 2021, the department of surveys and mapping had approved two general plans in the layout consisting of 365 residential plots, of which 273 were ready for allocation.
He said the sub-land board had started vetting the Nokaneng residential plots applications waiting list in preparation to start allocations during the board’s next sitting. Ends
