Greater Selebi Phikwe Regional Health Management Team has been commended for its efforts in combating COVID-19 and other ailments.

Addressing health workers at Mmadinare Primary Hospital on Monday, Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe specifically  commended the team for containing the spread of COVID-19 at Mmadinare Senior Secondary School.

“We received a positive COVID-19 update for the region and we are here to encourage you to continue doing your best to minimise local transmissions,” he said.

Mr Lelatisitswe encouraged the team  to come up with new ways of fighting the virus and other ailments emphasising that mindset change was necessary  to enable them to think and do things differently.

He said fighting COVID-19 was President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s number one priority which they should support by reducing local transmission in Selebi Phikwe, Mmadinare and Bobonong.

On government’s digitalisation priority, Mr Lelatisitswe said technology was an important tool that could transform the lives of Batswana for the better.

He therefore urged health workers to make use of technology to assist patients and improve turnaround time.

Mr Lelatisitswe said the presidential COVID-19 task team would look into the issue of permits to allow movement from greater Selebi Phikwe to other zones.

For his part, greater Selebi Phikwe coordinator, Mr Mpaphi Mbulawa said the region had not registered any COVID-19 related death in the past seven weeks.

He said the region also managed to contain the spread of coronavirus at Mmadinare Senior Secondary School where more than 600 positive cases were registered last term.

“We have not won the war against COVID-19 but we still continue tightening screws against this virus,” he said.

He informed the meeting that the region had so far registered 50 new cases bringing the total to 5 292.

Regarding vaccination, Mr Mbulawa said the community had responded positively to the vaccine revealing that to date a total of 7 817 had been vaccinated.

MP for Mmadinare Mr Molebatsi Molebatsi  commended Mmadinare Primary Hospital staff for their sterling work.

According to Mr Molebatsi, Mmadinare and Selebi Phikwe hospitals were the best run government health facilities.

Patients no longer queued for long periods, he said.

Mr Molebatsi requested that  Mmadinare Primary Hospital revert to its original name of St Peter’s Hospital.

The hospital was started by the Anglican Church which should be recognised for the contribution it made in improving the wellbeing of Mmadinare residents, he said. Ends
