Police in Tonota are investigating an incident in which a 37-year-old man of Tonota was on Sunday afternoon hit and killed by a north-bound goods train near the village.
Tonota Police Station Commander, Superintendent Oteng Ngada confirmed the incident, saying the deceased was from a church service trying to cross the railway line at around 4pm when he met his demise.
He explained that police preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased might have panicked when the train conductor blared the horn as he was a well-known physically challenged person.
“I think he failed to walk faster when the train approached as he has some problems with walking,” he added.
Superintendent Ngada stated that the body of the deceased was at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital for postmortem and his relatives had been notified. Ends
