Increase productivity
24 May 2021
Uncompleted projects in Kedia and Mopipi are a sign of unproductive labour hence the need to reset and find new ways of doing things.
This was said by Vice President Slumber Tsogwane when addressing kgotla meetings in Kedia and Mopipi villages in his Boteti West constituency recently.
“That is to set new priorities, adopt new approaches and put in place new implementation resources immediately,” he said.
Emphasising the need to increase productivity levels across all sectors of the economy, Mr Tsogwane said inefficiency thwarted the country’s economic growth and general development.
He said government had come up with the Economic Recovery Transformation Plan encompassing among others a citizen inclusive economy as well as infrastructure development to support the change.
“This plan can be successful only if the public service finds new and smarter ways of implementing projects on time and on budget,” he said.
The vice president said government was working round the clock to create employment especially for young people noting that youth unemployment had been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Government’s intention, he said, was to empower the youth to produce goods and services to the best of their ability in a move to close the gap between the rich and poor.
In Mopipi, Mr Tsogwane explained that the increase in taxes and levies was not meant to impoverish but instead to generate income to enable government to better citizen’s lives.
For example, he said, paying tax would enable government to continue providing some services at subsidised prices.
He encouraged Mopipi residents to venture into agriculture because there were more value chains that could be derived from the sector.
Some residents commended government for projects undertaken in their villages which included construction of kgotla offices, a clinic at Kedia, milling project as well as LA2 houses at Mopipi.
However, others decried shortage of accommodation for public servants in the two villages and also requested re-sealing and upgrading of internal roads. Ends
