Stepping Stones international launches initiative
24 May 2021
The launch of a library corner by Stepping Stones International (SSI) Botswana at the national library will afford young children and the youth time to read and learn about issues such as gender equality and health.
Launching the initiative on Friday, the organisation’s Life Skills coordinator, Mr Gothusaone Maoto said the library space would allow them to interact with adolescent girls, young women and boys to encourage them to be bold and strong and also help them achieve their goals in life.
The library corner was made possible by SSI’s DREAMS, which stands for Determined, Resilient, Empowered, Aids free, Mentored and Safe, initiative.
Mr Maoto said DREAMS did not only provide mentorship since the books donated would offer educational support and also help those with financial challenges to learn how to generate money for themselves.
The National Assembly’s senior administration officer, Mr Tiro Mekgwe applauded SSI for the initiative and encouraged them to extend it to the rural areas, where it was mostly needed.
He said girls, boys and the youth in the rural areas needed to be mentored on issues such as gender based violence and health issues because they were disadvantaged and stated that help would be availed to them. Ends
