Makaleng-born soldiers have donated 70 plastic chairs to the village development committee (VDC) to be used at the kgotla.
Speaking during the donation ceremony in Makaleng on Friday, the soldiers club member, Mr Anthony Butale stated that it was in the year 2019 that the current and former soldiers realised that the village needed their contribution towards the advancement of developments.
He highlighted that the soldiers approached kgosi to express their interest to donate chairs for the kgotla shelter, following which kgosi embraced them.
Mr Butale indicated that the chairs currently in use were old and dilapidated, hence were uncomfortable and were an eyesore.
He said the club, comprising of 43 Makaleng-born members, contributed money totalling P5 400 to purchase the chairs.
He further noted that their club had big dreams to continue doing more for their village.
Receiving the gift, village development committee chairperson, Mr Ndawa Nkoshwane thanked the soldiers for extending a helping hand.
He said the chairs were for the community, adding that the village development committee would take care of them to ensure that they lasted longer.
The village development committee chairperson pleaded with the community to treasure the gift by keeping the chairs clean and looked after at all times.
Kgosi Simon Samu applauded the soldiers for their selfless gesture in contributing towards the development of their village.
Kgosi Samu said such acts of kindness should be emulated by all, to unite and build the nation.
He stated that developments were not solely government’s responsibility, but also every citizen’s to contribute whatever they could towards building a solid nation.
Moreover, he pleaded with Makaleng residents to follow COVID-19 regulations by remaining in isolation or quarantine whenever they were instructed to do so by medical officers.
Kgosi Samu alleged that there were some people who contravened the COVID-19 orders by going to the lands and shops though instructed to remain in quarantine. Ends
