Acron mobile application to assist Form 5 leavers

Acron Botswana has created Acron mobile application geared towards meeting the needs of young Batswana in quest for tertiary institutions of their choice.
During a press briefing in Gaborone on Monday, Acron Park Holdings chief executive officer, Mr Onalenna Mosupiemang, said they realised that there was lack of relevant information for form five graduates to make informed decisions regarding their fields of study.
Some students, he said, continued to drop from their courses after realising that it was not what they expected while others upon completion of their studies found out that their courses were not accredited.
He highlighted that they were then propelled to come up with the mobile application, which provided different services in one platform.
Mr Mosupiemang said the application could be downloaded from Google play store for free.
Regarding how the application worked, she said, the individual would have to insert subjects studied and grades then submit, adding that the app would then show the number of points accumulated.
The CEO said the app would show a list of institutions and the courses that someone who attained that number of points could apply for.
“If you click on a course, it will give you all the information regarding that particular field of study such as duration of study, if the government sponsors the course or not and if yes, is it a loan or grant,” he said.
He indicated that the app also helped in comparing courses in order to find differences and be able to make the best choice.
Acron Park Holdings, he said, worked closely with Botswana Qualifications Authority (BOA), which provided information on accredited courses as well as Department of Tertiary Education Funding (DTEF) for information regarding sponsorships.
Mr Mosupiemang highlighted that all the information provided through their app had been made available through career fairs or going to different institutions for such information and services.
“Now students can access all information from the comfort of their homes and apply still through the same platform,” he added.
He said due to COVID-19, a lot of events that provided such information could not be held and students were advised against crowding at different institutions to access information, therefore the application in a way combatted COVID-19 since students would not be disadvantaged by lack of events.
“The app is the answer to events not being held due to COVID 19,” he said. The CEO indicated that they were still to make arrangements with DTEF on how students could apply for funding through the app. ENDS
