Barolong queen mother laid to rest

Mother to Kgosi Lotlamoreng II of Barolong, Ms Alinah Montshioa has been laid to rest in Good Hope.

Speakers at the funeral described Mohumagadi Montshioa as a loving and humble mother, who treated people equally.

They said Ms Montshioa was always available to assist and advise her people. 

She also organised women in Borolong to embark on horticulture.

Various speakers said Mohumagadi Montshioa would be remembered for the service she rendered as a farmer and a compassionate mother. 

They said her death was not only a loss to Barolong, but to the entire country.

Speaking on behalf of the children, her son, Mr Montshioa Montshioa said her mother passed on after a short illness.

Mr Montshioa said her mother provided peace, security and love in the family.

“She was like a gentle breeze that wafted through, creating a haven for us, making things right.

For his part, Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Eric Molale divulged that Mohumagadi Montshioa was a hard working individual with a unique talent of uniting the tribe and always made sure that they preserved their Serolong culture.

Her neighbour, Ms Keitumetse Mmono described the late Queen Mother as someone who loved and lived for farming, saying that trait was boosted by the fact that they were both raised in families, which loved farming.

She added that they both learnt how to drive tractors, adding that during her early years, the late mohumagadi could even be sent to Mafikeng across the border to buy tractor spare parts.

Her friend, Ms Seno Keyi said Ms Montshioa loved smart clothes, adding that they both went to Marojane Primary School in Hebron.

She told mourners that she was more like a sister to her and her children should feel free to consult her whenever they needed something.

Ms Keyi revealed that her friend’s wish was for the district to have a museum, where the tribe could safely preserve their cultural artifacts.

Magosi from across the country and members of different political parties bid Ms Montshioa farewell.

Ms Montshioa is survived by five children, three women and two men. ends
