Coronavirus impacts cultural activities
06 May 2021
Headman of records for Shashemooke says the advent of COVID-19 has had a negative effect on the way some cultural activities were conducted.
Kgosi David Adam said in an interview that the social distancing protocol had killed the pomp and fanfare associated with weddings.
“The new normal has forced us to reduce the number of people involved in the early stages of bogadi and slashed the number of those allowed to attend the wedding ceremony.”
Kgosi Adam made a clarion call to his subjects to adhere to the Ministry of Health and Wellness protocols to ensure containment of the disease.
Kgosi Adam has had meetings with headmen and Village Development Committee members (VDC) in Shashemooke to try to formulate the best way to encourage residents to observe COVID-19 protocols.
He said the majority of residents of Shashemooke had obeyed the health regulations.
“It is a pity that we have lost four people to COVID-19 related diseases, three elderly and a young person,” he said.
He said the fact that residents of Shashemooke were not able to hold kgotla meetings was worrying.
He said vaccination remained their only hope, and that he was hopeful that residents of Shashemooke would get an opportunity to be inoculated. ends
