Botswana 4 x400 men’s relay will compete in the finals today after finishing first at the ongoing World Athletics Relays Silesia 2021, held at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow, Poland.
The team clocked a Season Best time of 3:04.03 followed by Italy with a time of 3:04.81 while the hosts Poland finished third with 3:05.04.
The quartet, made up of captain Isaac Makwala, Leungo Scotch, Boitumelo Masilo, and Ditiro Nzamami will be against Belgium, France, Netherland, South Africa, Japan, Italy, and Colombia in the finals this evening at 8:42pm CAT.
Track and field analyst Lentswe Charles said the final would be a tactical game and needed to tick as they were supposed to beat the time they clocked in the heat with a large margin.
He said it need race with a rhythm, balancing total racing distance and good use of energy in all the four legs.
In the sprinter type quartermilers, he said there was Makwala and Scotch who could be featured in legs not closer to each other as in another plan.
He said Masilo was an endurance type 400m runner and could fit in both the second and third leg, adding that Nzamani, a strider who showed that with his current form he could be a racer.
He said if Nzamani, who was anchoring Team Botswana, could run like he did in the heat race, focusing on putting more effort, the race could be a marvel to watch.
“They also have to be weary of all the teams in the final, especially Netherlands and South Africa since they can bedeadly,” said.
Meanwhile, the women’s 4x400 finished on third position with a time of 3:34.99, the men’s 4x 100 took position four with 39.55, while the 4x400 metres mixed relay finished last with a time 3:20.97 END
