Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Edwin Dikoloti has extolled Majwe Mining Joint Venture for leaving visible footprints in the region during their time of operation.
Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of a computer hand-over ceremony to Mmathethe-Molapowabojang constituency in Jwaneng on Monday, he said the company’s philanthropic works could not be over-emphasised and he commended them for the good gesture.
The company donated five computers to the constituency. One would be handed over to the Maokane kgotla in due course.
Majwe Mining’s contract with Jwaneng Mine came to an end in April.
The minister said appreciated developments made thus far, saying the company was a partner in education at Maokane’s Mogale Junior Secondary School and that it created a conducive learning environment for performance to thrive.
Dr Dikoloti, who is also Member of Parliament for Mmathethe-Molapowabojang constituency, said the area around 80 kilometres radius from Jwaneng Mine was in dire need, and that Majwe Mining Joint Venture’s philanthropic work was cushioning people residing in those areas.
The minister also expressed gratitude for the company to have partnered with communities in bringing developments that helped people in numerous ways.
For his part, Majwe Mining Joint Venture’s project director, Mr Caster Mothibedi said they found it fit to donate computers because it was in the era of the fourth industrial revolution and that computers were needed the most.
He said the company had mapped a way forward and had identified needs in the areas of vicinity to their operations, hence lending a helping hand to improve the livelihood of Batswana.
He noted that Majwe Mining Joint Venture’s journey with Debswana Diamond Company started in 2011 and culminated in April 2021.
He said some of the pending projects in communities had been shifted to Debswana for completion, adding that he was proud to have achieved what they did through their time in the area, adding that their footprints were not erasable. Ends
