Water Utilities Corporation donates house in Nxaunxau

27 Apr 2021

Water Utilities Corporation recently donated a two bed-roomed house to Mr Qwii Qwee in Nxaunxau in the Okavango District.

Speaking at the handover ceremony recently, WUC head of business in Maun, Mr Thabo Ndadi said the house was built through the corporation’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

“Corporate social responsibility is a programme where the corporation extends a helping hand and gives back to members of the community where it operates. This is an indication that, as a corporation, we are part of the community where we operate,” he said.

Mr Ndadi noted that it was the 11th house the corporation had built since 2012 and that they would continue with the initiative.

Other houses, he said, were built in Letlhakane, Jakalas 2, Kanye, Mochudi, Palapye, Mahalapye, Tshimoyapula, Botlhapatlou, Ntlhantlhe and Vukwi.

For his part, Okavango MP, Mr Kenny Kapinga commended WUC for the initiative and for having chosen a remote area such as Nxaunxau as beneficiaries.

Mr Kapinga also commended the corporation for its commitment to giving back to the community. He also noted that the project was carried out at a time when the world was faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downfall.

The MP also said what was done by WUC was a noble gesture as a habitable shelter was a basic need.

“I must emphasise that proper shelter gives an individual dignity. I, therefore, appeal to Mr Qwee and family to take good care of the house,” he said.

Mr Qwee was also grateful for the facelift of his homestead by WUC.

He said it would instil dignity upon him and his family. Ends
