Choppies Botswana treasures Motherhood initiatives

26 Apr 2021

Choppies Botswana held the Mother’s day countdown session to mark the day prior to May 9 in which they will be on addressing challenges and the journey surrounding motherhood through a webinar.

The event held at Sanitas Garden Centre in Gaborone on Saturday involved a panel of six women.

Senior marketing officer at Choppies, Ms Katlego Gaborone said through the webinar, they would hold online conversations, the first of their kind during Women’s Day.

Last year Choppies did it for the fathers.

The event was for the panelist to engage prior to the webinar to try and find answers to issues affecting motherhood.

She said this year’s Mother’s Day theme is Motherhood Shift, and she believed that the discussion would be helpful to every mother as it was expected to discuss issues that mothers go through every day.

She noted that through the discussions, mothers would give Batswana open minds and eyes to get to know what it meant to be a mother in modern days and challenges mothers went through.

As part of the webinar discussions, Choppies supported the six women with P2 000 each to give back to the community through the charity organisations of their choice.

Moreover, the women have placed donation boxes at the four Choppies stores, the Hyper Stores at West Gate, North Gate, Phakalane and Game City in Gaborone.

The donations would be added to the amount that Choppies sponsored the women with.

For her part, Mascom Wireless’ communications & public relations officer , Ms Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego, also vice chairperson of the Botswana National Sports Commission said to date she had not decided on any charity organisation to give  Ms Sebego implored Batswana to do their best to improve other people lives.

One of the Panelists, First National Bank’s Ms Peo Maine, who has a 17-year-old child living with Autism said as an advocate for such children as hers, she would bring to the webinar a lot of aspects such as special needs, singleness and being a young mother.

“I believe this webinar will create awareness on the different issues that mothers face.

It’s a chance to have honest conversation about motherhood.”

Liberty Life Botswana’s director, Ms LuLu Rasebotse emphatically said Batswana had to drive the charity agenda, explaining that she believed in the saying that the hand that gives is the hand that receives.

“To me giving back to the community is not about material things only, it’s about giving your time, but directing your energy in a way that impacts another positively.
I’m not involved in the webinar as part of Liberty, but as LuLu Rasebotse who is a mother.”

Ms Rasebotse said she trusted Batswana to respond positively to their call on the coming webinar because they embraced technology and social media, which they would be using on that day to appeal to members of the community for assistance.

She said if used properly, communication technology could change the world to be a better place.

A student at Limkonkwing and director of BerryHeart Creations Ms Keotshephile Motseonageng said the event came at the right time, adding that in February she donated to Mahupu Unified School in Takatokwane.

“It was then that I realised that there was need for mobilisation towards charity organisations.

I was encouraged by Choppies chef executive officer, Mr Ramachandran Ottapathu to join this group and I believe I am in the right place.”   ENDS
