Debswana c-shift employees recently donated groceries and household items worth P2 500 and a load of firewood to an elderly and disabled woman of Bontleng ward in Tsabong.

The Debswana employees also cleaned the recipient Ms Fredah Kgaodi’s yard. Speaking during the donation, Debswana mining foreman, Mr Ishmael Molefe said the employees found it fit to donate to one less privileged person annually and hence decided to extend their benevolence to Ms Fredah Kgaodi through Tsabong Sub-district social welfare office.

Mr Molefe said kindness and compassion towards the old, disabled and less fortunate members of the community were crucial elements to a better Botswana as they promoted a sense of belonging and hope for the beneficiaries.

“Donating to the less fortunate members of the community help them to have hope and develop an understanding that they are valued. This motivates them and they end up standing on their feet to better their lives,” he said.

For his part, Tsabong social welfare officer, Mr Manfred Kono said that they chose Ms Kgaodi due to the fact that she was less fortunate, aged and disabled and could not support herself. Mr Kono noted that Tsabong was one of the villages that were hard hit by poverty.

He praised Debswana employees for their good deeds and appealed to them to continue helping the poverty stricken citizens. He also encouraged them to hold steadfast on driving Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation. The employees were also hailed for their efforts of helping the government eradicate abject poverty.

The beneficiary, Ms Kgaodi expressed gratitude towards this gesture, saying that she is very pleased to find people who care about her welfare especially that she was old and living with  disability.

She was humbled by the fact that strangers from as far as Jwaneng could come to her rescue adding that the act has brought hope back to her life. Ends
