Kanye District Health Team (DHT) staff has exercised the spirit of Vision 2016's pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation by raising funds through a 20km sponsored walk on October 5.
The walk from Kanye to Lotlhakane East was for Batho Madigele, a Kanye boy who was diagnosed with a kidney disease in 2011. DHT chief walkers, Ms Keanole Phirinyane and Ms Josephine Mosimanewakgosi appreciated the assistance rendered by the government, NGOs and members of the public who managed to assist with donating funds for the kidney disease operation scheduled for South Africa but, indicated that they were also assisting those who haddonated.
In an interview, Ms Mosimanewakgosi said they had requested money from business people, individuals and public servants in Kanye who promised to assist them. She said with the help of members of the public, who answered their call during difficult times of preparing for sponsored walk, they otherwise would have not succeeded.
However, they had not yet collected the promised funds. Batho was diagnosed with chronic renal failure, a type of kidney disease in 2011. He was placed on automated peritoneal dialysis machine.
He is still waiting for the kidney operation which will take place after he gets a new kidney. Her sister, Kagelelo promised to donate a kidney to his brother, but she was still doing several tests before doctors could remove hers. Recently Batho’s father, Mr Kebaabetswe Madigele thanked all the stakeholders for the compassion that they had shown.
He said the medical operation was taking too long because of some tests which were being done on Batho’s sister. He appreciated the service offered by The Ministry of Health, paying for the treatment and for the dialysis machine.
He said the government was willing to assist them during the medical operation. Ends
