Chobe District starts health workers vaccination

21 Apr 2021

A doctor with the Chobe District Health Management Team (DHMT), Dr Clement Mukadi, says the district has started administering COVID-19 vaccine to health workers following the elderly activation on April 9.

In an interview, Dr Mukadi said health workers vaccination exercise would also cater for staff working at quarantine sites, isolation facilities, COVID-19 testing staff, as well as accident and emergency personnel.

He noted that 170 doses were availed  by the Ministry of Health and Wellness for the health workers group.

Regarding the elderly aged 75 years and above, Dr Mukadi said 325 were vaccinated.

He noted that eight refused to take the dose, but on follow up two agreed to be vaccinated.

Dr Mukadi explained that the remaining six would be followed up in an effort to educate them on the importance of taking the vaccine.

He called on the public to desist from getting too much information from the social media since most of it was not true saying the vaccine aimed at reducing COVID-19 mortality rate. Dr Mukadi said from the 325 vaccinated elders, 44 cases of common side effects of the vaccine such as dizziness, headache, fever and sore muscles were registered.

He explained that though the side effects were not serious the health team was monitoring the cases. ENDS
