15 Apr 2021
Kealeboga Primary School and Bakwena National Schools in Molepolole North have been prioritized for cyclic maintenance in the current financial year.
Responding to a questions in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development , Mr Kgotla Autlwetse said he was aware that the roofs and ceilings of classrooms at both schools were dilapidated and were a potential health hazard to both pupils and teachers.
Mr Kgotla said the long-term solution to the condition of both schools was to replace the whole roof structures but due to the budgetary constraints it had not been achieved hence the delay.
He said that the last comprehensive maintenance of classrooms was carried out in 2010 at Kealeboga Primary School while at Bakwena National School was in 2007.
However, he said the school toilets were maintained during 2020/2021 financial year as part of the COVID-19 pandemic response.
Molepolole North MP, Mr Oabile Regoeng had asked the minister if he was aware that the roofs and ceilings of classrooms at Bakwena National School and Kealeboga Primary Schools were dilapidated and were a potential health hazard to both pupils and teachers.
He also asked when the last comprehensive maintenance works were carried out at the said schools and when the next maintenance works would be done. ENDS
