Jwaneng police are investigating an incident in which a badly decomposed body of a 42-year-old man of Modutlwa ward in Kanye was discovered at Mabewane cattlepost near Pitseng on Sunday.
Speaking in an interview, Jwaneng station commander, Superintendent Thuso Basuti said the deceased, who stayed with his 37-year-old younger brother at Rakodisa cattlepost, disappeared from home on March 25.
“His younger brother did not immediately report his disappearance as he said the deceased had a habit of disappearing sometimes for about four days without a word,” he said
Supt Basuti said on April 10, the deceased was still not back and his younger brother then started to become suspicious.
He said upon inquiring at home in Kanye, he was told that the deceased was never there, and this prompted relatives to launch a man-hunt at the cattlepost and surroundings until they discovered his badly decomposed body in a tent in the bush on April 11.
Supt. Basuti said the body was discovered under the blankets as if he died while sleeping, and that nearby was an axe, a radio and a solar panel.
“Even though our investigations are still on, we suspect that the deceased died in his sleep.
It looks like he was on a camping trip to cut some fencing poles for sale as he often did to sustain himself,” he said.
Supt. Basuti said a post-mortem was done at the scene before the deceased was handed to his family for immediate burial. ends
