11 Apr 2021

Kgosi Kose Kebuang of Khonkhwa village near Sekoma has died.

His daughter, Ms Pulane Kebuang, indicated in an interview that Kgosi Kebuang, who was 75 years old, took ill this week and his condition deteriorated on Wednesday afternoon.

“He was then rushed to Jwaneng Mine Hospital, where he was immediately transferred to Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital.

Unfortunately, in the early hours of Thursday, he passed away,” she said.

At the time of the interview, Ms Kebuang said that funeral arrangements were still not finalised as they were awaiting advice on funeral protocols from the District Health Management Team (DHMT), while the body was still to arrive.

“He died of COVID-19, so we are still awaiting the health personnel to guide us on the process,” she said.

A staunch farmer, Kgosi Kebuang was the founding Kgosi of Khonkhwa village, having relocated to the area from his native Sekoma in the 1980s, in search of water for his cattle and land to plough.

As the area grew and attained a village status, he was installed as the first ever kgosi on July 30, 1989.

He leaves behind two daughters and a son, 21 grandchildren as well as four siblings. Ends
