Marung Development Services (MDS) has brought hope to Tsholofelo family in Letlhakane through construction of two houses worth P300 000.

Marung managing director, Mr Sebele Molalapata, said bringing hope into peoples’ lives was one of the objectives of MDS’ corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Construction of two houses for the family, he said, was in line with pillar two of Vision 2036, where it called for social inclusion and equality as well as social upliftment.

Mr Molalapata stated that construction of the two houses would bring a different form of peace in the home, adding that ‘hope will have a new meaning to them when the project is completed’.

He reiterated that MDS brought hope to the family through construction of two houses, each with two bedrooms, kitchen, a toilet and bathroom. In addition, the plot would be fenced and water pipe would be connected.

The general manager of Lucara Botswana, Mr Johane Mchive, stated that the company encouraged its business partners to contribute towards corporate social investment as demonstrated by MDS.

He stated that Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recognised that ending of poverty and other deprivations must go hand in hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality and spur economic growth.

Lucara Botswana upholds partnership and as the mine life expands, people should have trust and expectation that partnerships would continue, he said.

He implored MDS to continue with the good spirit of investing back into the community.

The family representative, Ms Gabadumele Tsholofelo said the donation would make a significant impact in their lives and restore their dignity.

Ms Tsholofelo noted that the project would bring safety to their kids and protect them from harsh weather conditions.

She cited that their children’s books were usually destroyed by rains during rainy days, and with construction of the two houses they were confident that even performance at school would improve. The family, is made up of 58 members, amongst them are eight disabled members, four use walking crutches’ while one is wheel chair bound.
