Kgosi Cosmos Lelatlhego of Moeti ward in Maun has hailed Bethenia Christian Church (BCC) for donating food hampers to four needy families in the ward.
Speaking during the handing over of the donation, Kgosi Lelatlhego praised the church for demonstrating love and compassion towards the needy.
He said stakeholder partnership was more crucial during these times of COVID-19 pandemic since many people were struggling to survive.
Giving to the needy, he said, opened avenues for more blessings.Kgosi Lelatlhego stated that the pandemic had indeed reinforced the need for stronger partnerships, adding that it was clear that no one could tackle the pandemic alone.
He also called on beneficiaries to think outside the box and find ways that could help improve their living standards, adding that the pandemic had taught Batswana a lesson to explore other available opportunities to fend for themselves.
He cited that some people who benefited from donations had put up some stalls and were selling food to earn a living and urged them to think along those lines.
A social worker, Ms Barulaganye Ditirwa, hailed the church for the good gesture, stating that they had portrayed the spirit of love towards the beneficiaries.
She concurred that the pandemic had indeed increased the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration and urged the church to continue with the good spirit of touching the lives of Batswana.
Ms Ditirwa appreciated that the donation would augment government efforts to cushion those who had been hard hit by the pandemic, adding that giving was a blessing.
Archbishop Daniel Mokgau said the church had introduced an initiative dubbed Adopt a family whereby all church branches across the country identified some families through the office of the social worker and donate in kind on monthly basis.
Since the church was still growing, he said they had decided to atleast touch the lives of four families per month as they appreciate that the pandemic had brought sorrow upon some families.
Through the initiative, Archbishop Mokgau, noted that they intended to reduce the burden on government, adding that it was part of their mandate to work hand in hand with village leaders, social workers and assist where necessary.
In addition, he said, the church was motivated to donate because giving was a God’s principle. “Through giving, we are accomplishing God given responsibility as a church, as stated in Proverbs 31:31”.
Meanwhile, Bethenia Christian Church opened its doors in Maun in 2011 and it had lent a helping hand in alleviating poverty amongst the communities.
The church public relations officer, Mr Ookame Wright, revealed that it was not their first time to donate, adding that going forward; they intend to extend their helping hand to other areas outside Maun.
Lending a helping hand, he said was a demonstration of the love of Christ.ends
