Now for Them Trust, a non-governmental organisation has donated 400 solar lamps to primary schools of Dikwididi, Leshibitse, Ramotlabaki and Modipane.
Speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony in Dikwididi recently, Now for Them Trust coordinator Ms Sarah Mulwa said the donation was made possible by the Philips company through The Signify Foundation.
She said the solar lamps were meant to give pupils that may not have access to electricity at home, an opportunity to continue with their school work in the evening.
She said not all households had access to or could afford electricity.
She said this was meant to empower the pupils and provide them with all opportunities to improve and maintain a high academic performance.
For his part, Kgosi Bana Sekai expressed gratitude to the NGO, noting that the solar-powered lights would go a long way in assisting learners with their school work at home.
He said it was a pleasure to see NGOs donating and helping to better the lives of people, especially in rural areas. Ends
