Dr Masisi on two-nation working visit
30 Mar 2021
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi will on March 31 undertake a two-nation working visit to Zambia and Zimbabwe.
A Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation news release says the visit will afford the President as SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security chair the opportunity to engage with his counterparts, Mr Edgar Lungu of Zambia and Zimbabwe’s Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa on bilateral, regional and continental issues.
“The heads of state will also explore common solutions to the pressing socio-economic challenges occasioned by COVID-19,” says the release.
It further says President Masisi will use the opportunity to present Botswana’s candidate for the SADC executive secretary position, Mr Elias Magosi.
Noting that Botswana has long-standing relations with both countries, the release explains that diplomatic relations with Zambia were established in 1966 and with Zimbabwe in 1983.
“Over the years, Botswana has enjoyed strong bonds of friendship and fruitful cooperation with both countries in various fields including trade, tourism, education, defence and security,” it adds.
The President’s delegation includes Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Lemogang Kwape and Minister of Basic Education, Mr Fidelis Molao as well as senior government officials. Ends
