Boometswe Mokgothu is no more

Former Kweneng West MP, Mr Boometswe Mokgothu has died.
Mr Mokgothu, who also served Letlhakeng constituency as an MP from 1994-to-2004 died on March 28 at Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital, in Gaborone, where he has been hospitalised for some time after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
His daughter, Ms Tshepo Mokgothu said the family was still in shock as the doctors had previously confirmed his recovery and he was to be released from hospital.
The 73-year-old former Minister of Minerals and Water Affairs was first diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 13 through rapid testing and later Sidilega Hospital confirmed the positive results.
Ms Mokgothu said he was being taken care of at home, but on March 18 things took another twist and he was rushed to the hospital.
Mr Mokgothu was an MP for Kweneng West from 1984 to 1994. He was in 1999 appointed Minister of the then Minerals and Water Affairs and served the ministry until 2004. Prior to that he was the Assistant Minister of Local Government Lands and Housing from 1992 to 1999.
Mr Mokgothu was in 2006 appointed Botswana’s representative Ambassador to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, Switzerland.
