The host Mahalapye Botsrail and Miscellaneous of Serowe have clinched a hard fought victory over Morupule Wanderers and Arsenal both of Palaye at the Botswana Railways Club Grounds to advance to the semi-finals of the netball championships.

The victory left Botsrail and Miscellaneous in a must-win position to advance to the Northern Zone second round fixtures. Morupule Wanderers lost the first game 18-69 to Botsrail which also beat Arsenal 78-29. Miscellaneous also walloped Arsenal 40-18 and Morupule Wanderers 57-28.

Morupule Wanderers lost the first quarter 0-26 before forcing two goals in second quarter, they managed to score nine goals in the third quarter and seven to the fourth quarter to make a total of 18 while Botsrail scored a total of 69.

Northern zone public relations officer, Mercy Kololo hailed the teams for their strong defense. Mercy said the teams were prepared they all arrived on time and played well regardless of the score margins. For her part the captain of Botsrail, Kelebogile Neo said she was happy about the way her team played.

Kelebogile said they could do more but the problem was that most of the time team members were not always available for training due to work and school commitment. Another captain for Morupule Wanderers, Kefilwe Mobita said misunderstandings within the team contributed to their loss.

Mobita said losing with that margin was disappointing adding that some team members played their own game instead of playing as a whole to win their game. Nevertheless, she said they desired to reach top four in the northern zone matches.

Thato Orethuse of Miscellaneous alluded that it was a tough game especially that all the teams wanted a win. She however said their win shows their commitment and desire to be top four to gain exposure. Thato called for support from the general public, saying playing knowing they have an audience would give an extra edge to play well. The fixtures were pivotal in the race for a top four place in the Northern zone. ENDS
