A group of former Swaneng Hill School (SHS) students in Serowe on March 26 donated notebooks to 31 Serowe Administration Authority (SAA) primary schools.
Borre ba lekgota la SHS 1999-2000, as they call themselves, donated 24 boxes of note books to Serowe schools.
The group of close to 100 men and women who are Serowe residents, was formed by former Swaneng Hill School students of the year 1999-2000.
Handing over the books, a member of the group, Mr Zibane Mokamogo, said education was an important aspect of one’s life, hence the group saw it fit to give back to the community in order to help pupils with their learning.
He said the main objective of Borre ba lekgota la SHS was to give back to the community and the donation would not be their last charitable activity as they intended to make it annual.
Receiving the books, the deputy district commissioner for SAA Mr Collen Tubego commended the group’s gesture more so that the country was currently facing challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said it was not everyone who found it easy to share with others what they had because everyone was affected by COVID-19 and experiencing financial and social challenges.
He applauded the group’s selfless gesture and advised them to continue giving back to the community as such would turn to be a blessing to themselves too.
“Education is a possession that no one can take away from you and it gives hope to see people investing in it and caring about students’ learning,” Mr Tubego said.
He commended the group for having a good vision of investing in education because he said by so doing they were creating a strong foundation for the future of the country. Ends
