Society can overcome social ills

07 Oct 2013

Social ills can be overcomed if churches play their role in shaping the society.

Francistown mayor, Mr James Kgalajwe, said at Inter Church Ministries Botswana Bible School graduation ceremony on October 5 that 90 per cent of the city’s residents were not saved and this was why many social ills bedevilled Botswana's second city.

Cllr Kgalajwe said the Bible said in Matthews 9:37-39 that the harvest for the kingdom of God was plentiful but the labourers were few. He therefore encouraged the graduates to use their training to save the lost souls.

He told graduates to know their identity because that was when God would help them to save lives. He warned the graduates not to preach what they did not practice, as it would not bear any fruit, but rather it would worsen the situation.

He also reminded the graduates that for their certificates to be seen, they should be ready to exercise their faith as the Bible stated that faith without works was dead.

“This training that you have been through will help equip you with biblical knowledge and good leadership skills that will surely improve your ability to lead churches with wisdom, truth and patience” he said.

Cllr Kgalajwe congratulated the early leaders of the Botswana Spiritual Council of Churches based in Francistown who had the vision of Bible training for their pastors for more than 30 years,  which he noted had promoted and continued to promote the importance of knowing and applying the word of God to their lives and to the communities they served.

He also applauded the leadership for calling the school Inter Church Ministries Botswana as it demonstrated the importance they placed on unity and the fact that it was a school that was open to all churches.

He noted that each Bible school graduate should take the spirit of unity and apply it when they interacted with members of other Christian denominations. Inter Church Ministries Botswana Bible is a cooperation between some North American churches and Botswana’s spiritual churches that began in 1975 to support one another in spreading the word of God.
