IHS raises funds for conference

07 Oct 2013

Kgosi Jakoba Gaamangwe of Sengwato ward in Serowe has advised the staff and students of Serowe Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) to put more effort in everything they do.

Kgosi Gaamangwe was speaking at the end of the 12km walk, organised by the Institution to raise funds for the coming Affiliated Health Training Institutions (AHTI) conference scheduled for Serowe next month.

He said for them to achieve their goal, they should make sure that they worked hard because success needed effort. He said success did not come over night and the fact that the walk did not attract many people did not mean they had failed, thus he urged them to work even harder.

Kgosi Gaamangwe applauded the nurses for a job well done saying the coming conference would be a big event that will have many challenges, as such, he assured them that with good spirit they will conquer.

For her part, Serowe IHS Principal, Ms Tebogo Gwaila said AHTI was composed of eight institutions and has since 2009 joined forces to collectively build up research culture among their grouping. Ms Gwaila said it was then decided that a research conference be held bi-annually on rotational basis in terms of venue, hence this year the conference would be held in Serowe.

She said this year’s conference would be held under the theme: Research and Teaching: A must in the Quest to Develop Responsive Health Personnel. She explained that the theme aimed at using research findings to address gaps in learning by improving the teaching methodologies within Health Training Institutions.

However, Ms Gwaila noted that the main challenge they have in organising such a big conference was lack of funds, hence the sponsored walk. She said the Ministry of Health as well as the institution was heavily burdened by the global economic financial misfortunes.

She explained that it was the commitment of the hosting institution to successfully host the conference without failure and in order to do this the institution has solicited for financial support from other individuals and organisations in the form of pledges.

Ms Gwaila applauded everybody who participated in the walk especially the organising committee. Ends
