Kgatleng registers 2 843 COVID-19 cases

Kgatleng District has registered 2 843 cases of COVID-19 as at 16 March 2021.
Giving an update on the COVID-19 status of the district during a virtual full council meeting on Tuesday, council chairperson, Mr Daniel Molokwe said there were 570 active cases, 2 245 recoveries and 28 deaths.
He said of the 570 active cases, 118 were at isolation facilities while 452 were on home isolation.
He noted that schools were also affected with sporadic outbreaks that were, however, under control. He also noted that 110 pupils and eight teachers at Artesia Junior Secondary School tested positive.
Mr Molokwe said the pupils were mostly boarders and that they were isolated at the school.He also said Oodi Primary School, Oodima JSS, Isang Primary School, Seingwaeng Primary School and Molefi Senior Secondary School recorded less than 30 cases each.
He added that the District Health Management Team was working with the schools management, the regional educational office and the community leadership to contain infections.
He also said the district continued to intensify health education on COVID-19 symptoms and preventative mesures. He said contact tracing and case management was done to prevent complications, deaths and the spread of the disease.
Mr Molokwe further noted that the district participated in the national measles/rubella vaccination campaign, which was conducted from 1st to 12th February 2021.
He said although they had a target of 10 736 children, they managed to reach 10 281 children, which was 96 per cent of the target. ENDS
