COVID-19 affects KDC budget

25 Mar 2021

Kgatleng District Council (KDC) chairperson, Mr Daniel Molokwe says the council’s budget was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking during a full council session, which marked the end of the 2020/2021 financial year, Mr Molokwe said the council experienced budget cuts and a surge in unbudgeted expenditure.

He said the cuts were further compounded by the council’s inability to collect enough income from own sources.

He said they had anticipated to have collected about P9.7 million by end of February 2021, but only managed to collect over P3.4 million.

He noted that council officers were unable to collect as expected due to measures put in place to fight the pandemic such as movement restrictions.

On expenditure, Mr Molokwe said the council spent over P157 million against its target of almost P155 million, adding that they anticipated the overall expenditure to be within the set budget by the end of the financial year. ENDS
