Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) acting chief exceutive officer, Ms Lesedi Moakofhi, has commended Tonota College of Education (TCE) students for joining the nation in its endeavour to improve the lives of under-privileged citizens.

Officiating at Those and Those Social Club of TCE's donation of 20 blankets to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital, Ms Moakofhi said the students' gesture was a welcome development. Ms Moakofhi said Nyangabgwe faced challenges such as shortage of resources.

Therefore, the gift of blankets was going to help provide warmth to hospitalised patients. She said it was everyone who made it a point to donate to the needy and applauded the gesture shown by the students who relied on their parents for toiletry money, which they had since sacrificed to raise funds for their project.

Such efforts, she said, would inspire other Batswana to help their needy compatriots. “The work you have done will be an inspiration to many that have not had the courage to give to those in need,” she said.

Ms Moakofhi donated P3 000 and advised the club to organise a fund raising wellness event for the community of Tonota, which she suggested that they should at least charge an entrance fee of about P50. She added that at the event, she would come with almost 10 instructors and they would do aerobics exercises as part of the fund raising activities. The aim is to help the club raise P25 000 for charity.

Chairperson of Those and Those Social Club, Mr Morris Letsatsi, explained that when they started, the aim was for college students to socialize, even beyond the borders of the college as way of fighting boredom.

Mr Letstsi said during one of the social games, he said he suggested to the club members the idea of having a project, which would help them leave a legacy after completing their studies at the college, hence they decided to raise funds by hosting competitive tournaments. Students who are not members of the club and some Tonota residents contributed towards the project. ENDS
