Tshukudu Metals Botswana has donated 39 canteen dining tables worth more than P100 000 to Ghanzi Senior Secondary School.
Handing over the donation on Monday, Tshukudu Metals Botswana manager, Mr Karabo Laletsang said although they were currently short on funds and were sustained by the mother company, Sandfire Resources, it was important that they helped the school.
Mr Laletsang said with COVID-19 challenges, the donation was befitting to enhance compliance to health protocols at the institution and protect pupils to ensure that the future labour force was secured.
He commended Ghanzi senior for registering an improvement in this year’s BGCSE results, and expressed hope that the donation would motivate pupils to do more.
Ministry of Basic Education chief education officer, Mr Brown Sethapelo said the donation was massive and amazing.
He recalled that during his seven-year stay at Ghanzi senior as a teacher before leaving the school in 2003, there were no canteen tables until Tshukudu Metals rescued the situation, saying it was a sign that the company valued education.
Ghanzi senior school head, Ms Kachana Shamukuni expressed gratitude to the company and stated that the tables could host 312 pupils at a go.
She said the place would now look organised and that pupils would now be able to learn dining etiquette. She said it was previously difficult due to lack of proper arrangement. ENDS
