Kgosi Gaditshwane Mmutle, 84, of Shorobe was laid to rest on Monday at his home village after falling ill for a short period.

Kgosi Mmutle died on March 17 at Letsholathebe Memorial Hospital in Maun.

He joined bogosi after retiring from active politics.

His senior, Kgosi Molatedi Dingalo of Shorobe described Kgosi Mmutle as an intelligent individual and an avid reader.

“He was a humble man and expected everyone to abide by the law,” stated Kgosi Dingalo.

Kgosi Mmutle served as a councillor for Ditshiping-Khwai Ward between 1984 and 2009 before he was appointed chief of records for Shorobe.

Kgosi Molatedi bemoaned the passing on of Kgosi Mmutle, saying Shorobe and the nation had lost a visionary leader.

North West District Council (NWDC) chairperson, Mr Kebareeditse Ntsogotho said Kgosi Mmutle was the longest serving councillor in the history of NWDC.

Mr Ntsogotho said despite Kgosi Mmutle’s ward being the broadest at the time, his commitment to the constituents remained unchanged.

“He was knowledgeable and the council depended on his guidance. He knew the council standing orders by head and did not have to read to quote them,” he said, adding that he was also a member of various council committees and was NWDC deputy chairperson from 1994 to 1998.

Senonnori-Boro Ward councillor and Kgosi Mmutle’s friend, Mr Kenson Kgaga said the former contributed to the independence of Botswana, Namibia and other African countries as a politician.

He said he worked closely with the late Mr Motsami Mpho of the then Botswana Independence Party.

Mr Kgaga urged upcoming politicians to emulate the likes of Kgosi Mmutle by being reputable politicians and not pursuing benefits that came with politics.

Another councillor, Mr Oabile Chombo said Kgosi Mmutle, who was his cousin, was smarter than the level of education he attained.

He said Kgosi Mmutle believed that no could achieve greatness by working solo.

Kgosi Mmutle is survived by his wife, eight children, 19 grandchildren and eight great grand children. ENDS
