Campaign raises funds for sport

A campaign dubbed United for BW Sport has been introduced to raise funds for sports.
United for BW Sport is a partnership between All Kasi, BNSC and BNOC.
The idea was to produce and market one unifying sports shirt, proceeds of which will help all sporting codes.
Speaking in an interview following the launch on Thursday, All Kasi director, Mokaedi Mapolanka, encouraged Batswana to support the initiative by purchasing the United for BW Sports shirt that would sell for P400.
Mapolanka said the thought behind the campaign was to encourage the nation to rally behind sports and assist the sector to recover from COVID-19 effects.
“We have found the initiative necessary, looking at the fact that it has been a year without major competitions across all sporting codes,” he said.
He said proceeds from the sales would go a long way in reviving sports noting that Botswana Premier League completed the league without a major sponsor and wondered what would happen post COVID-19 should the status quo remain.
Mapolanka reckoned that collective efforts towards developing sport would give sport in Botswana a new meaning and urged all to rally behind the campaign.
He explained that money raised through the initiative would be kept in a trust fund account and the expectation was that it be accessible to all sporting codes.
Mapolanka appealed to the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare, to be the main figure in realising the dream.
The shirts will be available at JB stores and All Kasi dealers countrywide. ENDS
