Councillors approve CCP project memo

21 Mar 2021

Maun Administrative Authority (MAA) councillors have approved the project memorandum of Constituency Community Projects (CCP) for the financial year 2021/22.

The memorandum was approved during a special sub-council meeting in Maun recently.

The councillors acknowledged that although most of the project proposals submitted were not covered, the memorandum prioritised projects which would  benefit communities.

Councillors also appreciated that priority was given to the construction of laboratories in primary schools. They said it would enhance the pupils’ computer literacy.

Earlier on, an economic planner, Ms Lorato Oremeng explained that due to COVID-19 measures, CCP consultations with communities for 2021/22 were not carried out physically as it was normally done.

She said instead letters requesting for project proposals were sent to respective Village Development Committees (VDCs) early this year to fulfil a bottom-up consultation approach.

Upon receiving submissions from VDCs, she said council consolidated the information per constituency, and that the proposed projects were sent to Members of Parliament for Maun West, Ngami and Maun East for their approval and validation before finalisation of the project memorandum.

Ms Oremeng noted that at the Ngami constituency, they had proposed paving internal roads at Sehithwa and that it had been allocated over P3 million.

The house was also informed that the village was strategically placed to be a service centre, hence the need to have good roads to attract investors.

In Maun West, some of the proposed projects include the construction of technology laboratories at Botswelelo, Mathiba and Toteng primary schools, the construction of a day care centre at Nxaraga Primary School inclusive of a playground, one office, kitchenette, two teaching spaces, sickbay and three kindergarten toilets.

Other projects include rebuilding two VDC LA2 houses at Botshabelo Ward in Maun, the construction of a classroom block at Toteng Primary School consisting of a storeroom and server room.

Proposed projects for Maun East include the construction of LA2 houses at Sankoyo and the newly opened Khwai Primary School; the maintenance of 10 primary school teachers’ quarters in order to increase accommodation for teachers; the pavement of a road at Matsaudi and the construction of culverts at Riverside in Maun among others.

Ms Oremeng also pointed out that they had requested P400 000 for fittings for the guest house at Chanoga to enable the full operation of the facility once completed.

She also informed councillors that they had 26 projects for the financial year 2020/21, and that none of them had been implemented because no funds had been received yet.

As for the financial year 2019/20, she revealed that 35 projects were implemented in the sub-district and that 14 had been completed, 19 ongoing and at different stages while two had not yet commenced. ENDS
