Vaccination campaign to start soon in Kweneng District

21 Mar 2021

The COVID-19 vaccination campaign for Kweneng District will start once logistics are complete, says Mr Kabelo Ntopo, Deputy District Commissioner (Development).

Presenting the District Development Committee (DDC) report during the ongoing ordinary full council meeting recently, Mr Ntopo said over 170 000 people aged 18 and above were targeted to receive the jab in the district.

He said the exercise would be done in phases at 135 vaccination points that would be covered by about 80 teams.

He noted that the number of teams may change due to availability of staff, adding that the district commissioner would be responsible for the overall implementation through the district coordination committee.

In response to both the council chairperson’s speech and DDC report, the councillor for Thamaga West, Mr Molatedi Selala decried the poor state of Thamaga Primary Hospital, calling for its urgent upgrade and maintenance.

He also said the bad relation between the Thamaga political leadership and the hospital management would negatively affect those seeking services at the hospital.

He urged the council to intervene before things got out of hand.

Gaphatshwa councillor, Mr Moemedi Mokgachane commended the council chairperson for convening the meeting online, saying it would ensure the health and safety of councillors and also reduce costs.

For his part, nominated councillor, Mr Tebogo Motlhagodi appreciated the council chairperson’s visit to Medie Coal Mine, saying there were numerous complaints by communities living near the mine.

He urged the council leadership to keep a close eye on the mine’s activities.

Meanwhile, some councillors demanded the six per cent salary increment that was given to public officers in 2019.

They requested the council chair to invite the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to address them on the increment as well as the suspended salary advance that councillors used to enjoy. ENDS
