The president of Segotja Molelo Society, Ms Goleba Mokwena was laid to rest in Letlhakeng on Wednesday.

Ms Mokwena, who died last week due to COVID-19 related complications, was hailed as a nation builder and a leader of repute.

During a memorial service organised in her honour on Tuesday at the Segotja Molelo Society headquarters in Letlhakeng, different speakers described her as a visionary woman who wanted to see the society create wealth for its members.

Letlhakeng Sub-district assistant district commissioner Mr Mosipidi Mokgolele said Ms Mokwena touched many lives in the community, especially that she was always quick to lend a helping hand whenever requested to do so.

Mr Mokgolele said words on their own could not express his sincere condolences to the bereaved family, friends, members of the society and the nation at large for the loss of such a precious woman.

He added that through her leadership, Segotja Molelo Society had helped many Batswana.

Segotja Molelo Society Kanye branch chairperson, Ms Keitumetse Orapeleng said they had lost a pillar of the society, a leader who was determined to grow the society and spread its branches across the country.

She said her life had to be celebrated in view of the great leadership she provided.

Ms Orapeleng added that Ms Mokwena gave her all during her reign as the president of the society and she steered the ship well.

She described Ms Mokwena as a humble woman yet a straight talker who feared nothing and faced challenges head-on.

She asked the members to be united and take the Segotja Molelo Society to greater heights like she had planned to do. Speaking on behalf of the family, former MP for Takatokwane, Mr Ngaka Ngaka said Ms Mokwena was a woman with a strong character.

He said they grew up together and she respected him even though she was older than him.

Mr Ngaka said whenever there was a challenge, she would stand up and help as she wanted a better life for everyone.

Mr Ngaka said it was not only the family which had suffered a loss, but the country as a whole.

Her uncle, Mr Kobo Kobo praised her for her efforts and said it was now upon the society to make sure that they emerge stronger than before and continue the path of success she had begun to pave. Different stakeholders of the society sent their condolences to the family, among them Botswana Building Society, Motsumi Attorneys, Diggies Funeral Services and Ponelo Wealth.

When giving a vote of thanks, Segotja Molelo Society national treasurer, Ms Godiramang Tsolo said they would forever remain thankful for the support, adding that Ms Mokwena and her committee managed to visit all branches last year November as if she was saying her farewells.

The deputy president of Shegotja Molelo, Ms Serwalo Masole said they would forever cherish the memories of her leadership.

She said they would continue with the great plans they had for the Shegotja Molelo Society, which were to kick start beginning of April..ENDS
