Kalafhi Medical Centre unfolds plans

14 Mar 2021

Kalafhi Medical Centre on Friday shared that it plans to expand its services in Botswana and regionally.

With four operational clinics in the Greater Gaborone, one operating from Main Mall, two at Village and one in Tlokweng, Kalafhi Medical Centre plans to open a hospital at Fairgrounds Mall in Gaborone.

Addressing a press conference and virtual of tour of a building where the hospital will be operating from, the centre’s director, Mr Barolong Mouwane said the centre aimed to become the leading private healthcare centre in Botswana.

Mr Mouwane said the hospital was a P46 million project expected to be operational by September and would come with features such as physical rehabilitation with hydrotherapy and medical oncology.

Other features, he said, would include a nephrology and renal dialysis centre.

The hospital will also perform non-invasive and minor surgeries, cardiology, pediatrician, neurology and psychology services as well as general practice.

“We would like the hospital to be a one stop shop,” he said.

Mr Mouwane stated that operating times would be from 8am to 12 midnight, adding that their long-term plan was to have 10 clinics in the Greater Gaborone to provide service to the whole of Southern District and other patients from across the country.

The hospital, he said, would be getting referrals from the clinics in Gaborone, noting that the intention was to have a formidable healthcare facility that would be able to compete with the best in the world, further stating that in their five-year medium term plan, they intended to build 24 clinics across Botswana with at least two one-day hospitals.

Sharing the medical centre intentions, Mr Mouwane has said they would like to open 34 clinics, three one-day hospitals and one inpatient hospital and bunker regionally in eSwatini, Angola and Lesotho to mention but a few.

For her part, Kalafhi Medical Centre managing director, Dr Matlhogonolo Mongwa said she quit her job three years ago to start her own clinic, a decision she said was not easy.

She stated that she was the only doctor and pregnant at the time, but through passion and support from her husband, Mr Mouwane she soldiered on.

The rate at which the clinic has grown to an option of a hospital, she said, was a true reflection of dedication to their passion.

Dr Mongwa noted that Kalafhi Medical Centre had more than 18 000 customers and it was what pushed them to opt for a hospital in the Greater Gaborone to serve Gaborone and surrounding areas. ENDS
