Elephant Havens donate borehole to Nxanxana

11 Mar 2021

Elephant Havens has donated a borehole worth P75 000 to Nxanxana residents in the outskirts of Shorobe.

Elephant Havens is a non profit organisation based in Gabamocha that fosters abandoned young elephants and empowers communities to co-exist with elephants.

Maun Administration Authority monitoring and evaluation officer, Mr Pelotshweu Ntesang commended the organisation for aiding the community, noting that government was faced with budget constraints due to the effects of COVID-19.

He said the borehole would improve the livelihood of Nxanxana residents. According to Elephant Havens co-founder, Mr Boago Poloko the organisation was registered in 2017 and looked after young orphaned elephants.

“Our aim is to protect the African elephant through community outreach,” Mr Poloko stated, adding that the organisation addressed challenges affecting communities around their area of operation by promoting co-existence between communities and wildlife, especially elephants.

He said water from the borehole had been tested and found to be good for human consumption and urged residents to own and protect it. He also stated that Elephant Havens desired to help Gabamocha and Nxanxana residents with a cluster farming project, something that could be realised with the community’s involvement.

Kgosi Molatedi Dingalo of Shorobe could not have been happier for the donation and encouraged residents to use the water wisely. ENDS
