Former councillor for Bosele Ward in Gaborone, Ms Khumoetsile Bogale says she played a major role in improving the education status of the ward during her tenure which ended in 2019.
In an interview, Ms Bogale said she was the brains behind the P1 million library for Bosele Primary School.
She said the library project started in 2016 after she learnt that the school’s results were declining yearly.
“After learning of the worrisome results of the school, I came up with strategies that could help improve the results,” she said.
Ms Bogale said the project started when one donor gave them building materials, and that it gained momentum with many companies and individuals coming on board.
She noted that most people donated money.
She said the Khumoetsile Marcia Bogale Reading Centre was named after her in recognition of her contribution.
She also noted that Northside Primary School donated money and had books shipped from the United States of America for the library.
She added that she was thankful to everyone who made her efforts of giving back to the community a success.
Ms Bogale also encouraged parents to teach their children the value of education and to use the library.
She said encouragement by teachers could foster good reading habits in pupils and that it would improve their academic performance.
She said giving back to the community was a way to assist government, adding that she hoped the current and coming councillors would continue the legacy of helping government to improve people’s lives.ENDS
