Ghanzi East councillors support tenders for community trusts

09 Mar 2021

Ghanzi East Sub district councillors are happy with the decision to award road de-debushing tenders to community trusts.

They argued that it would empower communities and that unemployment in rural areas would be addressed.

Bere Kacgae and D’kar councillors, Mr Isang Saidoo and Xukuri Xukuri said the decision has created employment opportunities for residents.

Other councillors who supported the move said community trusts had proved their mettle and urged other departments to do the same.

In his speech, Ghanzi East Sub district council chairperson, Mr Gabriel Nguahoka said road de-debushing tenders amounting to over P1.3 million were awarded to four community based organisations since the beginning of the 2020/2021 financial year.

He added that the tenders created 147 temporary employment jobs.

He noted that the beneficiaries included Au She Xhaulu in Bere, New Xade’s Itangoo Community Trust, Xwiskurusa Natural Resources Management Trust of East and West Hanahai and Kacgae as well as Huiku Natural Resources Management Trust of Qabo and Grootlagte.

Mr Nguahoka also said to increase citizen participation and community involvement in the tourism sector, the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, through the National Environmental Fund, had approved P3 million for the development of Bape and Qwee campsites.

He noted that it would benefit the New Xade community through the Itangoo Community Trust and CKGR settlements through the Momenghamugu Community Trust. ENDS
